Down Syndrome

The genetic disorder known as Down syndrome results from an extra copy of chromosome 21, sometimes referred to as trisomy 21. Physical and intellectual growth is impacted by this additional genetic material. Individuals with Down syndrome may have different health problems like heart defects or hearing problems, developmental delays, and unique facial traits. Still, people with Down syndrome have quite different skill ranges.
Early intervention programmes can significantly improve development using physical, speech, and occupational therapies, among other things. Moreover, very important things in enabling people to enjoy happy lives are inclusive education and encouraging surroundings.

Usually, the disorder is found at birth or by prenatal testing. Although there is no cure, medical care and awareness have greatly raised life expectancy and quality of life. It is crucial to recognise that individuals with Down syndrome possess unique qualities, personalities, and potential. Encouragement of inclusion and understanding supports an attitude that is more sympathetic and welcoming, as well as helping to break preconceptions.
