Arrhythmias are irregular heartbeats brought on by aberrant cardiac electrical signals. These abnormal beats can cause the heart to beat either erratically, too sluggishly, or excessively quickly (tachycardia). Atrial fibrillation (AFib), in which the heart's top chambers (atria) beat chaotistically and out of sync with the bottom chambers (ventricles), is one of the most often occurring forms of arrhythmia> Poor blood flow, tiredness, vertigo, chest discomfort, or dyspnoea may all follow from this.
While some arrhythmias are benign and may occur occasionally without symptoms, others can increase the risk of heart failure, stroke, or cardiac arrest. Common causes include electrolyte abnormalities, high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, and past heart surgery. Arrhythmias can also be brought on by lifestyle choices, including too much caffeine, alcohol, smoking, and stress.
Usually, diagnosis calls for an event recorder, Holter monitor, or electrocardiogram (ECG). The kind and degree of the arrhythmia will determine the course of treatment; it may call for drugs, lifestyle modifications, electrical cardioversion, pacemaker or defibrillator implementation. We may use anticoagulants for atrial fibrillation to lower stroke risk. Preventing problems and enhancing quality of life depend mostly on early diagnosis and care.
