Multiple Myeloma

Multiple Myeloma is a type of blood cancer that develops in plasma cells, a specialized white blood cell responsible for producing antibodies that help fight infections. In this condition, abnormal plasma cells multiply uncontrollably within the bone marrow, crowding out healthy blood-forming cells and producing excessive amounts of abnormal proteins. These proteins can damage the kidneys and interfere with normal immune function.

Common symptoms include persistent bone pain, especially in the spine or ribs, fatigue, frequent infections, unexplained weight loss, weakness, and increased thirst due to high calcium levels caused by bone breakdown. Some patients may also experience anemia, fractures, or kidney dysfunction before diagnosis.
