Aortic Root Aneurysm

An aortic root aneurysm is a disease that causes the first part of the aorta, the aortic root, to dilate or weaken. This section of the aorta is directly connected to the heart and has the aortic valve, which is critical to maintaining appropriate blood flow. As the aneurysm enlarges, the risk for life-threatening consequences, such as aortic rupture or aortic dissection, increases.

Large or fast-expanding aneurysms generally require surgical treatment to prevent rupture and preserve cardiac function.
