Endocrine & Hormonal Disorders

Endocrine & Hormonal Disorders are medical illnesses that develop when the hormone-producing glands of the body create too much, too little, or abnormal amounts of hormones. Endocrine system. The endocrine system includes the thyroid, pituitary, adrenal glands, pancreas, ovaries and testes. These hormones regulate important functions like metabolism, growth, mood, reproduction, sleep, and energy levels.

If the hormones are out of balance, various symptoms might arise. Common endocrine problems include hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism, diabetes, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), adrenal insufficiency, Cushing’s syndrome, and growth hormone abnormalities. Symptoms can include unexpected weight gain or loss, exhaustion, mood fluctuations, irregular periods, infertility, excessive thirst, hair loss or changes in blood pressure.

Diagnosis is based on a review of the person’s medical history, a physical exam, blood and urine tests, and imaging techniques to determine hormone levels and the activity of glands.  Treatment will depend on the underlying cause and may include hormone replacement treatment, drugs to modulate hormone production, lifestyle changes, nutritional support or surgery if needed. Proper management can restore hormonal balance, improve symptoms, and enhance long-term health and quality of life.
