Cellulite And Stretch Marks

Cellulite and stretch marks are prevalent skin issues that can affect people of all body shapes and ages. Cellulite is the appearance of dimpled or uneven skin, particularly on the thighs, hips, buttocks and abdomen. The condition happens when fat deposits break through the connective tissue under the skin, generating a lumpy texture. It can be caused by hormones, heredity, inadequate blood flow, and lifestyle factors like lack of movement. Though innocuous, many people try to minimise the visibility of their condition.

Stretch marks, on the other hand, are long, narrow streaks that occur when the skin stretches rapidly because of growth, weight gain, pregnancy, or hormonal changes. At first, they may be red, purple, or dark brown depending on the skin tone, and will gradually fade to lighter colours. They are the result of a breakdown of collagen and elastin fibres in the skin.

Neither is medically dangerous, but various treatments can help improve the skin’s texture and look. Exercise often, drink lots of fluids, and eat a healthy diet to benefit your skin. Topical lotions, massage therapy, and more complex treatments, such as lasers and microneedling, can show visible improvement, but it is rare to get full removal.
