Hormonal Imbalance Syndrome

Hormonal imbalance syndrome is a general phrase used to describe when the body makes too much or not enough of one or more hormones. Hormones control processes like metabolism, growth, mood, reproduction and energy balance; therefore, even a slight shift can disrupt many biological functions.

Irregular periods are often caused by common conditions such as thyroid disorders, polycystic ovarian syndrome, diabetes, stress, poor sleep, obesity, drugs, and natural life changes such as puberty, pregnancy, and menopause. Symptoms vary depending on which hormones are affected, but they might include exhaustion, weight gain or loss, irregular periods, acne, hair loss, mood swings, low libido, hot flashes, infertility, and changes in digestion. People may also have mental fog or sleep problems, feel thirstier or have muscle weakness.

The diagnosis often includes a medical history, physical examination, and hormone blood tests to determine the specific imbalance. Treatment is based on the cause and involves lifestyle modifications, stress management, food improvements, sleep corrections, and hormone-regulating drugs. In some circumstances, restoring balance is as simple as treating an underlying issue like thyroid disease or polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Ongoing changes in hormones can affect long-term health, fertility, and quality of life; thus, it is crucial to make an early diagnosis.
