Reproductive Endocrine Disorders

Reproductive endocrine disorders are problems that happen when hormones that control the reproductive system are out of balance or not working right. Oestrogen, progesterone, testosterone, luteinising hormone (LH), and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) are some of the hormones that are necessary for optimal sexual development, fertility, and menstrual cycles. When their balance is upset, it can cause a lot of health concerns for both men and women.

Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), hypogonadism, amenorrhoea, and thyroid-related reproductive problems are some of the most common illnesses. In women, symptoms can include irregular periods, not being able to get pregnant, too much hair growth, or acne. In men, problems can lead to a lower sex drive, trouble getting an erection, or a lower sperm count. Genetic causes, tumours, autoimmune disorders, or lifestyle factors, including stress, being overweight, and not eating well, may cause these conditions.

Hormone level tests, imaging studies, and a physical exam are all common ways to make a diagnosis. Depending on the cause, treatment can include hormone replacement therapy, drugs to control hormone levels, modifications to daily living, or surgery in extreme cases. To avoid problems and improve quality of life, it is important to have an early diagnosis and manage the condition correctly.
