Thoracic (Chest & Lung) Diseases

Thoracic disorders impact the lungs, pleura, airways, and other structures in the chest cavity. They include a wide spectrum of medical conditions. These conditions can make it very hard to breathe, exchange oxygen, and do other things that are important for breathing, which can affect your quality of life and health in general.

Some common diseases of the chest are chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, pneumonia, lung cancer, and pleural disorders, such as pleural effusion or pneumothorax. Infections, smoking, toxins in the environment, genetic factors, and dangers at work are some of the main causes of these disorders. People sometimes have a cough that won't go away, chest pain, shortness of breath, wheezing, and tiredness.

Imaging examinations, which are medical tests that create images of the inside of the body, including chest X-rays or CT scans, lung function tests, bronchoscopy, and lab testing, are usually used to make a diagnosis. Finding diseases early is crucial for stopping them from getting worse and causing problems.
The type and severity of the ailment will determine how it is treated. It could include oxygen therapy, pulmonary rehabilitation, and drugs such as bronchodilators, antibiotics, or steroids. In more serious or advanced cases, surgery may be needed, such as lung resection, tumour excision, or minimally invasive thoracic surgery.

The best way to manage thoracic disorders is to reduce symptoms, improve lung function, and improve the patient's quality of life by providing timely medical care and making lifestyle changes.
