Rajayakshma (Tuberculosis-like Condition)

According to Ayurveda, Rajayakshma is a severe illness that is frequently associated with a tuberculosis-like state marked by debilitation and chronic wasting. It results from decreased immunity caused by the depletion of essential tissues (Dhatu Kshaya), particularly Rasa, Rakta, and Ojas.

Excessive physical activity, poor diet, repression of natural desires, and long-term illnesses that affect all three Doshas (the fundamental bodily energies in Ayurveda)—especially Vata and Pitta—are the main causes of the syndrome. A prolonged cough, fever, weight loss, dyspnoea, hoarseness of voice, chest pain, and night sweats are among the clinical manifestations. Fatigue and progressive emaciation are classic indicators of deep tissue involvement. It can seriously impair energy and strength if left untreated. Ayurvedic medicine places a strong emphasis on restorative and nourishing treatments (Brimhana and Rasayana).

Ashwagandha, Shatavari, Yashtimadhu, and Pippali are among the herbs used to maintain respiratory health, boost immunity, and increase vigour. For tissue replacement, milk-based formulations and ghrita (medicated ghee) are advised. A healthy, nutrient-rich diet, getting enough sleep, reducing stress, and avoiding overdoing it are all components of lifestyle care. Key treatment objectives include maintaining Ojas and strengthening Agni. Quality of life can be greatly enhanced, and complications can be avoided with early intervention and regular care.
