In Ayurveda,
reproductive and gynecological disorders are associated with imbalances
in the Artava Vaha Srotas (female reproductive system) and disturbances
in Vata, Pitta, and Kapha doshas. These conditions affect menstrual
health, fertility, hormonal balance, and overall reproductive well-being.
Common disorders include irregular menstruation, dysmenorrhea (painful
periods), amenorrhea (absence of menstruation), leucorrhea, polycystic ovarian
syndrome (PCOS), and infertility.
The primary causative
factors include improper diet, sedentary lifestyle, stress, hormonal imbalance,
excessive intake of processed foods, and suppression of natural urges. Vata
imbalance often leads to irregular cycles and pain, Pitta imbalance
causes excessive bleeding and inflammation, while Kapha imbalance
contributes to cyst formation and heaviness.
Ayurvedic management focuses
on restoring hormonal balance and strengthening reproductive tissues (Shukra/Artava
dhatu). Herbal formulations like Ashoka, Lodhra, Shatavari, and Dashmool
are commonly used. Panchakarma therapies such as Uttarbasti, Virechana,
and Basti help detoxify and regulate the system. Lifestyle practices, including yoga, stress management, and a balanced sattvic diet, are essential.
This holistic approach
not only treats symptoms but also enhances fertility, regulates cycles, and
promotes long-term reproductive health naturally.
