Smritibhramsha (Memory Loss)

In Ayurvedic research, Smritibhramsha refers to the degeneration or distortion of memory, resulting in impaired knowledge storage and retrieval. It is mainly caused by an imbalance in Vata dosha, which controls nerve communication, and by Rajas and Tamas, which impair clear thinking. This condition can happen because of getting older, being under a lot of stress for a long time, being anxious, eating poorly, spending too much time in front of screens, not getting enough sleep, or having weak nerves.

Forgetfulness, disorientation, a shorter attention span, trouble remembering recent events, and mental weariness are all clinical signs. In severe phases, it may impede daily functioning and decision-making abilities, leading to challenges in performing everyday tasks such as managing finances, maintaining relationships, and fulfilling work responsibilities. Ayurveda posits the participation of Manas, Buddhi, and Smriti in the pathophysiology of this illness.

Management is all about improving cognitive strength and bringing mental balance back. Brahmi, Shankhpushpi, Guduchi, and Ashwagandha are all examples of Medhya Rasayanas that are commonly used to boost memory and intelligence. Shirodhara, Nasya, and Basti are among therapeutic techniques that feed the brain and nerve system. Meditation, pranayama, and a strict daily routine all help clear your mind.

To keep your brain healthy and stop it from getting worse, you need to eat a sattvic diet and get enough sleep.
