Chittodvega (Anxiety Disorder)

In Ayurveda, Chittodvega refers to a state of mental agitation, excessive worry, and emotional instability, closely resembling anxiety disorders in modern medicine. It primarily results from the imbalance of Vata dosha, which governs the nervous system and mental activities, along with aggravation of Rajas guna that intensifies restlessness and fear. Factors such as chronic stress, overthinking, irregular lifestyle, lack of sleep, and improper diet contribute significantly to its onset.

Symptoms of Chittodvega include persistent worry, nervousness, palpitations, irritability, insomnia, lack of concentration, and a constant feeling of uneasiness. If left unmanaged, it may affect both mental and physical health, leading to fatigue and reduced productivity.

Ayurveda adopts a holistic management approach focusing on calming the mind and balancing doshas. Herbal remedies like Brahmi, Ashwagandha, Jatamansi, and Tagara help in reducing stress and promoting relaxation. Therapies such as Shirodhara, Abhyanga (oil massage), and Nasya are beneficial in soothing the nervous system. Incorporating yoga, meditation, and pranayama enhances mental clarity and emotional resilience.

A balanced routine, proper sleep, and sattvic diet are essential for long-term management and prevention of anxiety-related disturbances.
