Neurological & Psychological Disorders (Manas Roga)

In Ayurveda, Manas Roga refers to disorders affecting the mind and nervous system, encompassing both neurological and psychological conditions. These disorders arise due to imbalances in the three doshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha—along with disturbances in mental qualities known as Sattva, Rajas, and Tamas. Factors such as chronic stress, improper diet, emotional trauma, and lifestyle irregularities contribute significantly to their development. Common conditions under Manas Roga include anxiety, depression, insomnia, epilepsy, and cognitive impairments.

Ayurveda emphasizes a holistic approach to managing these disorders by addressing root causes rather than just symptoms. Therapies include Medhya Rasayanas (brain tonics), herbal formulations like Brahmi, Ashwagandha, and Shankhpushpi, along with Panchakarma procedures such as Shirodhara and Nasya. Yoga, meditation, and pranayama are also integral for stabilizing the mind and enhancing mental clarity.

Diet and lifestyle modifications play a crucial role, promoting sattvic foods and disciplined daily routines. By restoring balance between body, mind, and consciousness, Ayurveda aims to improve emotional resilience, cognitive function, and overall mental well-being naturally and sustainably.
