Skin & Hair Disorders (Twak Vikara)

'Twak Vikara', as used in Ayurveda, describes a variety of skin and hair conditions brought on by an imbalance between the three doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. Healthy skin and hair are thought to reflect good tissue feeding (Dhatu Poshana), balanced digestion (Agni), and efficient toxin removal (Ama Nivritti). Disruption of these processes can lead to conditions such as acne, eczema, psoriasis, hair loss, dandruff, and early greying.

While Kapha dominance can result in greasy skin, clogged pores, and dandruff, Pitta imbalance frequently causes inflammatory problems like redness, rashes, and burning sensations. Dryness, roughness, and brittleness are signs of a vata imbalance. Ayurveda places a strong emphasis on a comprehensive approach to treatment, emphasising both external applications such as herbal oils, pastes, and medicated decoctions as well as internal purification (Shodhana therapies like Panchakarma).

To manage Twak Vikara, diet and lifestyle are very important. Maintaining skin health involves eating seasonal, fresh foods, drinking plenty of water, and avoiding too many processed, oily, or spicy foods. Because of their cleansing and revitalising qualities, herbs, including neem, manjistha, aloe vera, and bhringraj, are frequently utilised. Stress reduction, excellent cleanliness, and regular self-care routines all naturally promote healthy skin and hair.
