Kaphaj Hridroga (Cardiac Disorders)

Kaphaj Hridroga (Cardiac Disorders) is a type of heart disease in Ayurveda caused by the aggravation of Kapha dosha, leading to obstruction and heaviness in the cardiac region. Kapha’s qualities—cold, heavy, and sticky—result in the accumulation of ??????-like substances and mucus within the channels (Srotas), impairing proper circulation and heart function. This condition is often associated with a sedentary lifestyle, overeating, excessive intake of oily, sweet, and heavy foods, lack of exercise, and emotional stress.

Patients with Kaphaj Hridroga may experience symptoms such as chest heaviness, mild to moderate chest pain, shortness of breath, lethargy, slow pulse, swelling (edema), and a feeling of congestion in the chest. There may also be associated conditions like obesity, high cholesterol, and metabolic disorders, reflecting Kapha imbalance.

Ayurvedic management focuses on reducing Kapha, improving circulation, and strengthening heart function. A light, warm, and low-fat diet is recommended, with emphasis on pungent, bitter, and astringent tastes. Herbs like Arjuna, Guggulu, Garlic, and Pushkarmool are traditionally used for their cardioprotective and lipid-lowering effects. Detoxification therapies such as Panchakarma may also be beneficial in chronic cases. Early lifestyle correction is key to prevention and effective management.
