Kasa (Cough)

Kasa (Cough) is a frequent respiratory ailment in Ayurveda that happens when the Vata and Kapha doshas are out of balance. Sometimes, the Pitta dosha, which represents the fire and water elements in Ayurveda, is also involved. It mostly affects the respiratory system and can be caused by things like being in cold air, dust, smoke, infections, talking too much, or eating heavy, cold, and unsuitable foods. Ayurveda divides Kasa into many sorts based on which dosha is more important. Each type has its own set of symptoms.

A dry or productive cough, throat irritation, chest pain, hoarseness of voice, and trouble breathing in severe cases are all common signs. Vataja Kasa is usually dry and uncomfortable, Kaphaja Kasa has thick mucus and a heavy feeling, and Pittaja Kasa may have yellow sputum and a burning feeling. If you don't take care of it, a chronic cough might make your lungs and immune system weaker.

Ayurvedic management focuses on regulating the doshas that are out of balance, cleaning the airways, and making the lungs stronger. It is best to eat foods that are warm, light, and easy to digest and to stay away from foods that are cold, greasy, or heavy. Many people take herbal medicines like Tulsi, Mulethi (liquorice), Pippali, and Ginger because they help clear mucus and calm the body. Inhaling steam, being hydrated, and getting enough sleep are also highly important for healing.
