Katigraha (Low Back Pain)

Katigraha is an Ayurvedic condition that causes discomfort and stiffness in the lower back (Kati). It is mostly caused by an imbalance in Vata dosha. In rare circumstances, Kapha involvement may also make things feel heavy and limit movement. It is often linked to contemporary low back pain caused by lifestyle problems.
Long periods of sitting, incorrect posture, not enough exercise, too much physical strain, poor lifting skills, and degenerative changes in the spine are the main causes of Katigraha. Eating dry, cold foods and having inconsistent routines makes Vata worse, which causes the lumbar region to become drier and less flexible.
Symptoms include pain in the lower back that is dull or acute, stiffness, trouble bending or walking, tight muscles, and limited movement. In
chronic cases, the pain may spread to surrounding areas and become worse when you move or stay still for a long time.

Ayurvedic treatment tries to balance Vata and make the lower back stronger. Abhyanga (medicated oil massage), Swedana (fomentation, a process of applying heat to the body), Kati Basti (localised oil pooling on the lower back), and Basti therapy (a treatment involving herbal enemas) are all types of treatments. People use herbal medicines like Dashmool, Guggulu, and Ashwagandha to ease pain and feed tissues.

A diet that calms Vata, frequent stretching, yoga, and good posture are all important for long-term relief and prevention.
