Infections (Reproductive Tract Infections – RTIs)

These infections can result from bacteria, viruses, fungi, or parasites and are commonly transmitted through sexual contact, although poor hygiene, unsafe childbirth, or medical procedures can also be causes. RTIs are categorized into three types — sexually transmitted infections (STIs), endogenous infections (caused by overgrowth of normally present microorganisms), and iatrogenic infections (resulting from medical interventions).

Common symptoms of RTIs in women include abnormal vaginal discharge, pelvic pain, itching, burning sensation during urination, and irregular bleeding. In men, symptoms may include urethral discharge, pain during urination, and swelling in the groin area. If left untreated, RTIs can lead to serious complications such as infertility, ectopic pregnancy, miscarriage, and increased susceptibility to HIV.

Prevention and timely treatment are crucial. Maintaining personal hygiene, practicing safe sex, avoiding unclean medical instruments, and seeking prompt medical advice are essential measures. Awareness and regular health check-ups can help detect and treat RTIs early, ensuring better reproductive health and preventing long-term complications. Early diagnosis and appropriate therapy significantly improve recovery and reproductive well-being.
