Seborrheic Dermatitis – Greasy Scales on Scalp and Face
Seborrhoeic dermatitis is a common skin ailment that isn't communicable. It causes greasy, flaky patches that look like dandruff mostly on the scalp, face, and oily parts of the body. It looks like yellowish or white scales and causes redness, itching, and irritation. It generally gets worse in cold temperatures or when you're stressed. Seborrhoeic dermatitis can happen to anyone; however, it is more common in babies (called cradle cap) and people with oily skin.
Malassezia, a type of yeast, grows too much with this illness, and people may be more sensitive to things in their environment. It doesn't transfer from person to person, yet it can last a long time and have flare-ups.
For the scalp, treatment usually includes medicated shampoos with ketoconazole, zinc pyrithione, or selenium sulphide. For the face, moderate steroid or antifungal lotions work. It's also crucial to clean gently with products that don't irritate the skin. Seborrhoeic dermatitis is not dangerous, but it can make you look and feel miserable, so it's important to get treatment right away. Taking care of your scalp, managing stress, and following your dermatologist's advice might help you keep your condition under control for a long time.
