Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a long-term autoimmune skin disease that speeds up the life cycle of skin cells, which causes areas of thick, scaly, and red skin. It can affect a person's appearance, self-esteem, and quality of life, but it isn't contagious.

Scientists don't know exactly what causes psoriasis, although genetics and problems with the immune system are two big factors. Stress, illnesses, cold weather, smoking, and some medications can all make symptoms worse.
Red patches with silvery-white scales, itching, dryness, and sometimes severe breaks in the skin are signs of psoriasis. It can also impact the joints in some circumstances, which can develop into psoriatic arthritis.

Depending on how bad it is, treatment may include topical creams, phototherapy, oral drugs, or biologic therapies that target the immune system. Staying hydrated, applying moisturisers, and managing stress can all help keep flare-ups from happening.
