When the kidneys get hurt in an accident, when playing sports, while falling, or through a piercing cut, this is called renal trauma or injury. Kidney injuries can be severe because they are key organs that filter blood and keep the body's fluids in balance. Some frequent symptoms are pain in the side or stomach, blood in the urine that can be seen or not noticed, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and swelling in the stomach area. CT scans, ultrasounds, and urinalysis are often needed to find out how severe the injury is.
For instance, mild injuries could only need rest, fluids, and regular monitoring, whereas serious injuries might need surgery to fix them or possibly nephrectomy (removal of the kidney) if they can't be fixed
