Allergy

An allergy is a condition in which the body's immune system reacts to a foreign substance, such as pollen, food, or animal dander, that is typically harmless to most people. Allergic reactions can range from mild, such as a runny nose or sneezing, to severe, such as anaphylaxis, a potentially life-threatening reaction that can cause difficulty breathing and a drop in blood pressure. Common allergic conditions include hay fever, eczema, and asthma. Allergies can be treated with medications, such as antihistamines and corticosteroids, and avoiding exposure to allergens. In some cases, immunotherapy, such as allergy shots, may be recommended.

Respiratory allergies: Also known as hay fever or allergic rhinitis, respiratory allergies are caused by allergens such as pollen, dust mites, and animal dander.

Food allergies: These are caused by an allergic reaction to certain foods, such as peanuts, shellfish, or milk. Symptoms can range from mild, such as hives or an itchy mouth, to severe, such as anaphylaxis.

Skin allergies: Also known as eczema, skin allergies are caused by allergens such as soaps, lotions, or cosmetics. Symptoms include red, itchy, and dry skin.

Drug allergies: These are caused by an allergic reaction to certain medications, such as penicillin or aspirin. Symptoms can range from mild, such as hives or a rash, to severe, such as anaphylaxis.

Insect allergies: These are caused by an allergic reaction to insect stings or bites, such as from bees, wasps, or mosquitoes. Symptoms can include swelling, itching, and redness at the site of the sting or bite, as well as more severe reactions such as anaphylaxis.

Latex allergies: These are caused by an allergic reaction to latex, a natural rubber found in many products such as gloves, balloons and rubber toys. Symptoms can range from mild, such as a skin rash, to severe, such as anaphylaxis.

It's important to note that some people may suffer from more than one type of allergy, and the symptoms can overlap. Consult with a doctor for proper diagnosis and treatment of allergies.
